Default hi & advice

I shot club pistols before the ban & have shot clays on & off for the last few years, but with shot legs & progresive artritis I cant stand the kick any more, so really fancy getting into FT, any advice on best set up for a novice that does not have a fortune & may struggle in the discipline

Hi Pete,

A good start is an Air Arms S400 with a big Nikko on top (both secondhand).

In time, if you get the bug, you can sell on the 400 and upgrade to an FT specific rifle.

The big Nikko is a great scope but is a little heavy. There are some other scopes to choose from but perhaps the Nikko is most readily available secondhand.

If you're completely new to FT you might be surprised to see that some folk will spend more money on their scope than their rifle. This does show how important the scope is for FT.

When you've set your budget don't forget you'll need a divers bottle and charging equipment.

Hope this helps

Shaun, many thanks for the reply, I managed to try a reasonable selection of rifles today & although I liked the 400, it didnt quite fit me right. I did though buy an RWS Elite, with scope, bottle & everything needed to start. I know it may not be everyones choice, but it just felt right, I managed to have a session at a friends this afternoon & was grouping at about a inch at 35/40 yds, so very happy. I now intend to apply to go to the local ft club & see how I get on

Hi and welcome Pete.

Cornwall was my favoutrite ft ground this year, my first in Swefta. Perhaps thats because its the one i struggled on most?
I liked the S shape of the course though.

I have not shot or i think seen an Rws elite, just googled it and it shows a sporter style stock?

Is that the same as yours?

What scope did you get with it?

What pellets are you using? I would try Jsb exacts fisrt.
