BORS - Barrett Optical Ranging System - to replace sidewheels ??

Amazing what one learns at 02.30am on the Discovery Channel - "Future Weapons" !

- was a 5mn part on the Barret .416 supersonic bullet, hitting out a target accurately @ 2500 yard

....and then I noticed that Gizmo on top of the scope so did a bit of research...

What is does ?

BORS (Barrett Optical Ranging System) is an integrated electronic ballistic computer that mounts directly on the riflescope and couples with the elevation knob. In other words, it’s like having an army of ballisticians behind every shot. By taking care of all the science, BORS frees the user to focus on the thrill of putting lead on target.

The computer BORS is put into action by simply turning the elevation knob until the LCD displays the target’s range. Three internal sensors automatically calculate the ballistic solution. BORS compensates for temperature, changes in barometric pressure and aiming on an upward or downward angle. BORS even determines if the rifle is canted. In fact, the only thing this portable mastermind can’t do is pull the trigger.

The BORS kit includes the Barrett Ballistic PC Software and a BORS data cable that allows the user to program custom loads on their personal computer and transfer them directly to their BORS."

doubt i could mod it but i think i could build something similar

I looked at one of those yesterday which is odd. I want one for my Nightforce , they are making one at the moment, its not done yet i am told. $1500 not sure what the price would be over here no doubt more than that!!!

oh sorry, just saw optical ranging system and went with that... but i suspect as it compensates for cant and other things it would be...

Maybe this is why it is not legal the rules state quite clearly you may not have a seperate range finding device and i do beleive the BORS will not work without a scope being attached to it.MR P

it does not range find

if put it on a FT scope you would range normally like you do then just twist the turret untill the correct yardage (that you have found by the scope wheel) shows up and you shoot.

its just an expensive and fancy click chart

the 3 sensors will be 2 gyro's (one for shot angle and for cant) and a pressure sensor
