Default What got me into shooting

It is none of the options.

I always wanted an airgun from a young age. I was 13 and started bothering with a crowd of lads who were a bit mad. My father got concerned that I would go down the wrong road and follow the lads I was bothering with and asked Steve Chubb who worked with my dad at the time if I could go to a shoot with him.

I went to my first ft comp at Tondu in October 1990 to see what it was all about and went from there. Nearly 20 years on and I still love shooting ft and hft. I honestly dont think there is any other sport like it out there. Great friend sand memories that have been made from the sport.

Now my girlfriend has started as well which makes it even more fun (even though my fre time has gone) haahaa. The 2 sports of ft and hft are superb, there is no sport where families etc can enjoy themselves as much as this for very little cost.

I grew up in NI where owning an airgun was not that easy although a friend had one. I bought one, a Webley Vulcan in .22 shortly after moving to Norfolk, and joined an air rifle club in Norwich. My re-education began immediately, the Vulcan was changed to a TX in .177 and I've never looked back
Dipped my toes and fell in

I voted freinds but really it was friends.

I ran a classic 1968 Lotus Elan for 9 years, refurbishing and replacing parts untill it was concours.
Then in 1996 it was side swiped by a squaddie in a Ford Modeo and written off.
I joined Guiseley Field Target Club shortly after.
Less is more.

More or less.

I went to a game fayre, and had a go on the rifle range, that was it I was hooked.

Not been shooting that long, so not that knowledgeable, but I am enjoying learning how to zero, how to judge the holdover etc etc.
I get great satisfaction when I get it right and the targets fall

Probably all basic stuff to you guys, especially if you are good shots, the above might seem silly, but I do want to do HFT once I get good, if ever.

So at the moment it's practice practice and more practice.

The thought of all the good shooters makes me nervous, but I know you are right.

I will actively look for a shoot to compete in.

I've always been drawn to guns, so when my uncle offered to take me to the club I jumped at the chance

Hmm... what got me into shooting.....

Dad gave me a springer when I was 3 1/2 ish and spent many years (actually too many to mention!!) plinking in the garden and a local club. Life came along and i stopped for a while but now am well and truly diving back in at the deep end.... Joined Soton Buccs in Romsey last year and am now shooting any chance I get along with having a real hunger for the comps - got my first trophy this Oct - and tell anyone first chance I get!!!

Learning something new everytime I send a pellet down the range.... Lovin it!! ) Pure enjoyment, great competition with others and against yourself, plus the best way to meet some wonderful people.... they are all completely mad... but great... )
