I use Humbrol silver enamel paint and a very fine sharpie, if it need`s redoing the paint dry`s quick and just remark.

I marked my whole wheel in pencil once in readiness of using Rowan stickers. How funny it was (not) when I came to the end and realised I'd rubbed half of them off - learn from my mistake

I use masking tape and a pen, then i put a thin smear of fernox exterior leak sealer (screwfix) over it with my pinkie, makes it waterproof and its so easy to do and so easy to rermove and re do.
