Default Odd balls, SFT, Springers, 0.22 ... the non conformers!

I've just started ploughing through the "SFT (Sporter Field Target) - why not give it a try" thread and then realised it's a resurrection job from a few years back.

It got me thinking though how there are always shooters who always shoot something different.

The springer shooters, 0.22, SFT.

... the "I'm shooting them all standing today" brigade?

All of these folk choose to make things more difficult for themselves.

In that "SFT" thread the OP mentions several times the word "Challenge".

What makes people shoot these alternatives?

If you look at your post, you've answered your own question - the word 'CHALLENGE', we challenge ourselves to do things differently, not for anyone else's benefit or to be 'better' than others, it's a personal thing

I'm looking at shooting the southern hunters this year in the .22 class, why? Partly due to a gauntlet thrown down by a fellow club member and .22 sadist and partly because I haven't shot .22 in competition for around 20yrs and the challenge will motivate me to get out of bed and go shooting on a wet, cold and miserable day when, if I was shooting my .177, I'd probably choose to stay in bed

as for springer shooters they are nowt but freaks (have you seen Kyle Hampton?) and BBS members send them and their guns to the bottom of the sea

I think everything's loose Dave ... even my fillings ... after a lifetime of shooting springers.

They shoot these sub categories so they have ready made excuses when they miss.
