Default Whats under the turret dial ? and how do you get it off ?

Ok heres one that im sure someone will be able to help me with.

I have a Tasco 8 - 24 x 40 late 80s scope with superb glass which rangefinds suprisingly well. I am gonna have a go at putting a small target turret on so I can dial in ranges as its only got a duplex style ret which has limited uses for me. I have made a collar to cover the the thread for the turret cap and was going to attach the turrret directly to the dial possibly with apoxy resin, but wondered what was under the dial on these scopes and asuming its not a big spring and by removing it will kill the scope how do you get them off..... I have trawled the web with no joy, there is the usual adjuster screw in the centre of the dial but was unsure if this is just to turn the dial or can be removed. If it can please can you advise on the best tecnique....

Many thanks in advance
