By setting the focus to the distance of the target you're focusing the crosshairs in the same plane - so you won't get crossover. What you might have noticed (although it'll probably be very slight) is that to get a nice clear circular sight picture you will have needed to move your head into a very slightly different position. Where you head should be to get rid of the 'crossover' when your scope isn't focused at 8 yards.

I bet you probably didn't notice that though, it's not easy to spot unless you're specifically looking for it and even then....
