It's less to do with the brand, more to do with the supplier

I bought my last batch order from Intershoot, they came wrapped in more bubble wrap than you could shake a stick at - not had a single damaged pellet in the first 10 tins, don't expect to find one in the remaining tins.

Default dropped?

My bet is that the tins were dropped causing the pellets to crush each other. I've bought at least a quarter million JSB/AA pellets over the last 14 years and have rarely seen a damaged pellet. I once had a sleeve with 3 or 4 dented tins, from an obvious dropping incident, and only a few from each of those tins were bad. The bottom tin was the worst with about 15 bent skirts.

I haven't thrown away a single JSB pellet in 6 years. Like has been said before, it's how they have been handled before getting to you.
