Default Setting scope off rifle?

As i have the scope and im waiting for the rifle could i set and mark the FT ranges before i fit to the rifle? I was checking the scope today at different ranges and thought if i fixed it securely it would be easy to set up. Any thoughts,it may be a bad idea, was just wondering ?

Technically you could do the wheel ranges, can see why nit it may save you time but probably best done on the rifle if possible, don't know why as I'm just a traditionalist!
