So we're inconclusive here as well. I've done some trawling on the net and can't get a definitive answer, even on the hw owners site. Bit of an enigma this one I've got. The bottom section of the stock does have some figuring, but the top is totally featureless and much lighter. It's almost a straight line. If I didn't know better I'd say it was two different bits of wood joined together. It's probably some that is heartwood and some that is not. I've just done the initial stripping today to see if I can improve it's looks, but I think I'm backing a loser.

From the hw's I've seen most stocks look like planks then you get the odd one or two that's really nice. I've seen an older .22 thumbhole with a stunning bit of walnut on it!

I might be wrong but I think all HW100 stocks are walnut. The HW101 was beach to save money on that model, and produce a rifle at a cheaper price point.
They all have a walnut stain to some degree to even out colour and bring out the natural figuring in the wood.

I've owned five HW100's and have had quite a few spare stocks that I've refinished, all have been walnut.

Hw 101s are all beech 100s are mainly walnut but I have seen at least one brand new one in beech and that was a kt,I think sporters come in both
