Default Air arms ftp 900 huma reg

Why does having a huma reg fitted on my ftp require it to be or suggest the barrel be"free floated"? And what are the issues should i reinstate the barrel band? Many thanks.

Any FTP that is not free floated will zero shift.

I've got two FTP's that didn't zero shift at all but I free floated the barrels to save weight. You could argue that once all of the internal gubbins is out of the way it's easier to take the cylinder out and do the reg but this is just opinion

If both halves of your shroud are easiy movable with your fingers you should be ok , really tight ones are more likely to have issues

looking at my ev2 with Huma reg,
I should think the reasoning behind the free floating is the huma reg body doesn't look as substantial as the factory reg. I'd certainly think there was more chance of the cylinder moving with the huma than the factory reg.
this movement could well be imparted on the barrel if the band is on.

I had one of the 1st Huma regs and all these new findings weren't suggested then.so presumably it's to avoid now known issues.
same as the polishing the inside of the air cylinder wall.

I fitted an adjustable air stripper on my 900 with free floated carbon shroud, after having fitted a HUMA reg. thought at first it had improved accuracy, but it didn't. Put all the gubbins back on - only difference now is I split the carbon shroud and used that instead of AA original (looks better to me). Rifle was accurate before but seems better now.
