They can work well, but the problem with this slip in design is if either of the reg piston o rings leak into the vented spring chamber, or the main body o ring, or the reg to firing valve o ring or the reg to reg carrier o ring leaks they all vent out of the same place making diagnosing problems impossible.

All of the ev2 pro target and FTP Hubb reg setups I have seen use this same type of installation venting the reg to atmosphere through the tube threads with no need to drill. It is an ingenious design but with impossible fault diagnostics.
