I use a block of ballistic jelly which is made by a fellow club member. The jelly is supplied in a block which you then cut into slices, rebuild the slices back into a block and tie up with cable ties or similar, fire into the jelly at point blank range, split the block and retrieve the totally undamaged pellet. You can then inspect for even rifling on the head and skirt and also check to see if the pellet is clipping a silencer or muzzle brake etc.
Simple, safe and best of all cheap
