People should be told then. When I shot the Winter League round at Castle last year, we tried to do exactly this (find a 'free' part of the course to begin shooting), and was told in no uncertain terms to go and queue at the start like everyone else.
Isn't finding a free lane essentially the same as a shotgun start?
