If you have beeen brought up in a club where safety and good gun handling are taught you become by default a good safe shooter,more often than not pulled up by the membership when you step out of line..
As far as slings are concerned I've always used one while doing competitions from FT in 80's to HFT now I have had no problems with them and prefer to transport rifle between stands using one without the luggage a case or slip generates.Mats are enough for me! and when it rains the internals of the cases and slips get wet and soggy,not a good idea for the rifle to put away in!
Most safety transgressions can be dealt with adequately by marshals and penaltys,eventually the penny will drop,or they will be banned.
