In Germany, there are very close targets, too. A few years ago they had a new rule that everybody is obliged to protect their eyes. Some wore protecting glasses or those who were shooting with pig's ear have applied a plastic or plexi glass cover for the left eye.

Both images also show the use of safety flags/plugs. When inserted it is clear to everyone that the gun is safe rather than the "point the gun down" approach with air rifles (.22 RF, full bore, etc use "point it up" but the breech must be open and a flag inserted to prove it is open). I urge folk to use such safety items in the UK.
