petrolprices.com is worth a signup... they send you an email every few days and tell you which local petrol station is cheapest for the fuel you use. You can make the choice then. For really long runs you can find out cheaper refuelling stations or if it's better to tank up from home.
Even my 330d's 40 mpg capability 4 up is not looking cheap compared to a 320d's 60 mpg. I'm glad i junked the mini which needed super unleaded and dropped below 30 mpg as soon as you went near the throttle or the shift. I remember thrashing it back to the dealer for the trade in and reset the mpg with 45 miles to drive. It was in single figures as i entered the forecourt. That was an average
my new car is doing 12mpg!!! good fun though
