Interesting, but I still don't see what benefit it gives; ok so the pellet in theory travels up the smoothbore portion of the barrel at a higher velocity than if it were rifled, but then as soon as it hits the rifling the pellet will slow to exactly the same speed as if the entire length were rifled.
Or am I missing something crucial?
It sort of reminds me of the old German 'squeeze' gun technology.
