Ham fisted pilchards spray too close to the target using too much paint, causing a thick deposit, a couple of hits on this deposit and it peels off. You don't get thses sort in FT
Layers of paint will flake and peel. Spray from about 15cm in light coats and allow to dry before applying more if needed.
Older targets with layers built up need blowtorch and paint scraper.

New targets have a smooth finish almost oily (zinc plated or something, stops rust) the paint doesn't really stick too well and comes off very easily, they need weathered for a few weeks or coarse sandpaper to prime the surface.
