I used a 35x for a couple of years snd got on fine with it - at the time I was always vocal that you did not need any more mag and that the 40 / 45 mags would only offer a darker / reduced fov.

When I wanted a new Comp I decided to look for a 40x but dropped on a 45x close to home and decided to give it a go - I was wrong about the 35x been the best - they do the job but the 45x is much easier to range with and the image quality is still superb.

I was lucky to drop on a Premier ret - I would go for a mildot over the standard rets - you just need to figure out what size to have it set to.

If you are mounting the scope high then you really need a reference point low on the bottom line to use as an aim off point for 10 yards and closer.
