Well - I bought a second hand Nikko that had some particles on the ret. I contacted the importer and they asked me to send it to them via my local Nikko dealer (didn't cost me to post it)
They sent me a new scope a week later.
That was before the importer changed to Highland Outdoors - so they may not do the same now but if you buy the scope new I know they will sort any problem and it would be worth a shot even if second or third hand.
I mount mine high and have no problem with the weight - buy some dumbells with some of the money you save
I have owned almost all of the scopes available (except the S&B) and I keep going back to my Nato Mk1 Nikko. The scope is old and battered but I will use it until the sidewheel falls off and then buy another for around £280
