From your findings, it sounds like it's much more than just a puff of air coming out. I wonder if someone who knows more about regs n stuff ( ahem - Where's Tench when you need him
) could shed any light on what the reason for the venting is?
Shame they couldn't use that spare air to drive some sort of stabiliser mechanism to deaden the rifle a bit.
