Default Steyr Hybrid hammer

I feel some tinker time coming on with the hammer in my Steyr.
I'm convinced that the new style hammer is causing inconsistency due to the fact it is able to rotate through 360 degrees .
I have an old style hammer with the long flat spot along its length and intend to make a few modifications to it and replace my new style hammer.
Is there any thing to be gained with the light hammer verses the old heavy hammer?
I'm thinking of adding a cup for the spring at the back and a Ptfe guide at the striker end.
I feel the striker end is where the consistency issues are with it rotating and finding high and low spots in the action.
Any advice on hammer set up would be greatly appreciated.
