We had some donut try and remove the valve on a full welding bottle once, it wouldn't budge so he stuck some stilsons on the valve and was busily hammering it when the valve decided to shear off, Trevor (yes you know) got blown across the room as the bottle smashed through two breeze block walls then exited via the roof, it was found stuck in a field half a mile away.
I'm no expert but I'd imagine that a steel bottle need some serious tying down to keep it safe in an accident. Probably the best option would be to secure the bottle harness using both rear seat belts if they're not being used?
They're designed to restrain heavy awkward weights anyways so should be ideal to be honest.
