The depth of field should be very similar between all scopes at the same mag with the same size objective lens, with lens design/quality being the factor here not whether it is fixed or variable. Variable does have the advantage of being able to tailor the depth of field a little as well as open and closing up the aimpoints to align with the trajectory.
I also find 9x mag is much better than 10 as at 9 mag an object measuring 25mm will measure 1 mildot at 25 yards, a 40mm will measure 1 mildot at 40 yards etc, so if you know the size of what you are looking at and how many dots it measures some simple maths will give you the distance. So for that reason I would not go for a fixed 10 mag.
