I think there may be a difference between what cost rifles the sports require and what people are happy to pay. The manufacturers will be delighted with that.
I'm not sure that HFT would have died by now if we didn't have 900 quid rifles from BSA and AA to give less wealthy shooters a chance to give it a go?
