It is indeed guaranteed to be better than poking a target with a stick

I've done quite a bit of testing with it now and it's amazing how consistent it is in giving exactly the same results as a .177 pellet at 5.5fpe. What I tend to find is that if a target is going to fail it'll fail when you hit the bottom of the kill, which makes sense really. It also works for testing out Silhouettes as well - I just turn it upside down so the depth gauge contacts the plate below the sillys and use that to set the right distance.
