Question FT scope use (hold overs)?

Another beginner FT question ... In HFT, when I get the range right, as the lying position is quite stable the target will fall using hold overs most of the time.

Although I understand that clicking the distance in the end is most accurate, I was thinking to start with rangefinding at larger magnification, and take the shot at 10x using hold overs. is this uncommon, or are there other FT shooters who do this?

At what magnification do you guys normally shoot the targets further away, from 40 yards and further? (As I explained in another thread I'm having difficulties in maintaining a stable sitting position, and a larger magnification doesn't help ).
Best regards,

From the Netherlands, please excuse grammar mistakes
