Part of the issue with the sears not resetting is the sloppy spring fit on the 400/500 series triggers. As the spring compresses it buckles in the oversized hole and changes in strength. I make up spring guides for them to keep the spring nice and straight and it helps no end assuming you've removed the drag on the sears by shimming
Yep I have shimmed the actual rowan trigger unit so the whole lot don't drag on both the side plates . The other faces on the trigger unit side plates have raised shoulders so they don't drag , if there is a shimming requirement at this point it would be a nightmare as the shoulders are only a couple of mm wide .
I have also played with different springs , cut down ones , stretched ones and I did find a article on using a guide as you describe , tried it, but give up , mind you at that point I probably had already buggered the sear I was using so wouldn't have benefited , I will give that another go
