Default First stage trigger weight

Just curious really but is there any theory about how much pull weight to load onto the first stage of the trigger? I've always set it light, enough weight for it to feel positive, but no more. It struck me that many trigger blocks have the ability to set the first stage pull weight and I wondered if it's 'just because you can' or if there is anything behind it other than shooter preference? I wondered if a higher 1st stage weight pre-stressed the trigger hand so the release on the 2nd stage was cleaner, but was just speculating as you do.

This is probably more applicable to 10m shooters rather than FT or HFT.
