I read up on this after I experienced it a few years ago, I had been shooting .177 JSB heavies in a BSA barrel for some while and decided to try a faster twist rate. I installed a Steyr barley twist barrel which measured at 15.5" twist compared to the 19" bsa. The heavies were stunningly accurate in normal conditions but when the wind exceeded 10mph it had a weird effect, with a stiff wind from the left the pellet moved right but also lifted up, a stiff wind from the right moved the pellet left and down. The pellets dropped more than they rose as gravity was either assisting or fightting the movement resulting in too many variables!! I didn't stick with that pellet barrel combination!
