If you are using the "Mirror" technique then use an older mirror. They are usually made of thicker glass and you can see the crosshairs better.
For the "rotating" technique you can use a small box with 2 "V"'s cut out of the sides to replicate "V" blocks. Rest the scope in the "V"'s and rotate.
