I think the "top shots" will always be that due to a higher amount of natural ability. They will cease to be "top shots" when younger shooters overtake them.
I think if you took say the top ten in UKAHFT and made them swap their guns about, within a couple of weeks they would be turning top class performances in.
The beauty of the sport is that we can all pit ourselves against these top shots and rate ourselves against them. We can all own guns that will out shoot us but will give us pleasure in the ownership.
As far as I am concerned the prime requirement of the sport is to enjoy it and we can all do that.
Don't forget that without the "bad un's" there wouldn't be anyone to be better than
