Being bored this morning I just did a little bit of arithmetic on this. Imagine a scale pan 30mm in diameter and a wind at 2 metres per second, close to 5 mph, the dynamic pressure of the wind would introduce an uncertainty of 3% or more about the reading on the display.
This is why fine tolerance weighing in a laboratory is done in a closed cabinet. Getting an accurate pellet weight in the field would be a bigger lottery than getting an accurate velocity.
