Loads of times I've been told that nobody has ever been nicked just for being over 12, there was always some other circumstance etc, and the challenge laid that I should point out any cases that proved this assertion to be untrue.
Which, I can't, as I have neither the motivation nor the ability to produce such evidence.
What we are not told, however, is how many rifles have been confiscated as part of an official police caution, just for being over 12. Now, if I were the CPS I would be vigorously promoting the idea of a caution and a confiscation as being substantially cheaper than a court case, no risk of the "scallywag" getting away with it, and achieving the objective of parting the offender from his hardware.
Those figures appear not to be recorded.
