Well you could look at it another way..

The AT mechanisms have been tested by the Birmingham Proof house and have been passed as not being able to be turned up above 12fpe (using what they consider to be reasonable adjustments).

If a Forensic Science lab does something to make it go above 12fpe and argue that what they did was reasonable, you have a very good expert witness in the Birmingham Proof house to dispute that.

That's what AT gives you - the backing of the Proof house, which is quite an ace up the sleeve when it comes ot expert witnesses.
