Do they take the gun and immediately send if for forensic testing or is there some level of in-house testing carried out by either a firearms officer or a local gun shop first?
I suspect there's nothing hard and fast.
I do know that Police have used the "Local gunshop" to have airguns put over the chrono. This obviously would only give an indication but if near or over the limit then they have a choice.
1. Issue a "Caution" with the agreement of the gun holder. This would result in the loss of the gun and a Criminal Record, although no visit to Court and no fine.
2. Send the gun to a Forensic Lab and take it to Court.
