Of course I don't have evidence in terms of manufacturer's costs; they are unlikely to share that information. I simply observe the position and come to an opinion based on what I see. Most industries adopt LEAN attitudes and I would expect yours does; eradicating unnecessary costs and removing superfluous manufacturing processes are part of that philosophy, that effort to drive down costs and improve profitability and ROI. Now, some manufacturers happily don't fit AT and don't incur the cost. They are not compelled by law to fit AT and one has said they will remove it on request.
That tells me that the firms that continue to apply AT are content to do so and are happy with the bottom line outcome. Otherwise they would be abandoning AT to compete better on prime cost with their competitors.
