Well perhaps the industry realised that all Pre-charged air rifles are "capable" and therefore required the owner to possess a FAC. Perhaps, just perhaps, the introduction of AT was a last desperate attempt to steer the threat away? Whilst at the same time put the legal responsibilities in the hands of the user because of the absolute law. But the public must never know.

A "win win" result for the manufacturers. Laughing all the way to the bank.

ps, the rifles still remain "capable" despite the AT, but the powers that be must have been satisfied with the status quo and the fact that thousands and thousands of owners would not add to the burden of a FAC licence and the industry relieved that sales would not be affected by that requirement.

I suppose we will never know for sure.
