I agree with what you say about the equipment part with HFT.
Yes having an lg300 and a sightron helps (once you know the kit well) but equally I can pick up my huntsman mk2 in its cr94 stock and an old zeiler 6-24x44 set on 10x and still put in a decent score on an Hft course
Up here in scotland FT consists of 6 shooters max (if that some days) the guys who still shoot FT have real expensive pieces of kit .they are all decent shots ! if I were new to air gunning and I didn't want to jump feet first into spending 2-3k on FT kit then the obvious route here in Scotland is HFT as cris c
says a scope can be had for £150 a semi decent rifle can be had for £400
In comparison Hft is a cheaper sport till you melt the credit card and buy what some regard as the best
