(currently) the smallest kill at 8y in hft is 20mm. If you didn't know (or care) what the range was, resting the cross hair top of kill will take everything apart from split an 8y. If it looks very close, put cross hair a pellet width above top edge. Dont overcomplicate by 8y is 3 mildots, 9y is 2 mildots - sounds big differences in aimpoints, but at close range the dot seperation is very small in terms of mm's of pellet drop
