Some great advice up to now........ and from some of the best shooters in the UK!
HFT will make you a more accurate hunter and much better shot without a doubt, and any theory learnt for HFT will also put you in good stead for hunting. Can't help thinking that you would be better with a .177 though, especially if you intend to do any target/HFT work. I much prefer .177 for hunting and have quite a few years experience of shooting all air rifle and shotgun calibres for live vermin and game. It's not a major job to convert a Rapid to .177 as I did about 15 years ago when I realised the advantages. Kev G is excellent if you decide to go down that route.
A laser rangefinder will be a great asset for hunting to help learn your distances and ensure pinpoint accuracy and clean kills. I use mine more and more for hunting and wouldn't be without one now.
