. Sounds a bit odd but if you opt for a heavier scope it'll dampen the recoil. On my LGU it recoiled more (or at least felt worse) when I changed from a 10x44 MTC Viper to a 3-9x40 Genesis UL. Position and weight of your butt pad can affect recoil on a springer too.
But it is not just damping the recoil. If the CoG of the whole combo is on the axis of the cylinder and piston, then the recoil and surge forces are in a straight line with the mass of the rifle and it reduces any muzzle flip or jump effects.
