The only thing it will contact is the shin. Your kneecap doesn't touch the ground, the prime point of contact is the shin bone under the knee. Which is why the rule says the bag must be directly under the knee. Not pulled back so it is more directly under something else.

The photos will address this point so it's clear what is and what is not accepted.
