Yes, my EV2 did the same. My solution was to put a smear of quite sticky grease on the large diameter end of the bolt probe.
Re the timing; it's a matter of getting organised before the scope comes up to your eye. Holly wrote a very illuminating piece some years ago.
If it's a really tight time frame like a showdown with two shots to be let off inside 60 seconds there's a lot to be said for rangefinding HFT style, no clicks, just mildots.
