I think you're right, he has taken a stance, and in my view that's because he's taken legal advice about his position. That doesn't of necessity make it threatening, but the person on the receiving end might take it that way. Perception rather than reality.
If I'd paid for legal advice I'd follow it, otherwise it's a waste of money.
Really, is a table of results such a precious thing to trigger a squabble like this? A month after publication and it's old hat anyway.
