Well I started to think on how to do the job. It then came to me. I reckoned that the dress ring might be locktite'd slightly and I think it was. I used the wifes hairdryer for about 1 minute on the ring and then used an oil filter rubber wrench to grip the ring. It came off effortlessly.

So sorted. Thanks. Hope others find this useful.
