The "branch in the water" analogy imho doesn't hold water. When the branches are dropped in the water, they are essentially motionless in the horizontal plane. When they hit the water, they float, and as such are no longer subject to gravity acting upon variations in mass, and so the water flow is the only force acting upon them. So there.
A pellet has two more forces acting upon it: its forward velocity, and gravity pulling it towards the earth. The air flow is only one out of three forces acting on the pellet now.
I sense a disturbance in the force.
And yes, barrel harmonics may play a role in variations (or lack thereof) of POI. Great, just what we needed - one more parameter to include in our mental calculations. And what's worse, a parameter that we cannot calculate or reason through.
Maybe pellet selection IS a Dark Art after all.
