According to chairgun and assuming MV 780, coefficient 0.025, the difference between an 8.1 and an 8.6 grain pellet at 55 yards is 0.621 inch, bear in mind that if the rifle is set at 780fps, with 8.44 grain pellets, the 8.1 grain will exit the barrel at a higher velocity than 780fps, 796.2fps according to chairgun and the 8.6 grain will exit the barrel slower than 780fps, 772.7fps

Of course there will be other factors but 2/3 of an inch is substantial!
