Blame the laws of physics.

When the aperture in any lens system is reduced it increases the depth of field.

Your eye is a lens system and the aperture (iris) closes down as the light intensity increases (it gets sunny) thus increasing the depth of field ( focusing both closer and further)
Less is more.

More or less.
